Situated just to the west of Poppit Sands is an ancient fish trap believed to be over 1000 years old.
These days the trap can only be seen by either diving at the site or via an overhead flight as it it constantly submerged.
Originally when the trap was built, the water level would have been lower than it is today and the people who built the trap would have been catching fish with every turn of the tide.
The idea behind the structure is that fish would become trapped inside its walls as the tide level fell and could then be easily caught by the locals.
Due to its probable age, there is a strong possibility that it was a source of fish for the Abbey in St Dogmaels.
